Intel AI PCs with Neural Processing Units (NPUs) represent an exciting new platform for AI computing and development.
In this talk, Will French and Helena Kloosterman run a live demo on an Intel AI PC, showcasing how OpenVINO helps developers to harness the power of the CPU, GPU, and NPU simultaneously for AI workloads on Ubuntu. Next, they showcase how Snaps provide a convenient and powerful method for packaging OpenVINO-powered apps with hardware acceleration support that “just works.” This includes a practical how-to for building such Snaps, followed by a showcase of Snaps for three popular desktop apps — GIMP, Audacity, and OBS — that now include OpenVINO plugins for exciting (and fun!) use cases in Generative AI, such as image and audio track generation.
About Will
Will French has a somewhat unique professional background, that began in high-performance computing and scientific research, and more recently included embedded systems, IoT, and cloud infrastructure. The common thread has always been the Linux and open source ecosystem, and that’s what he’s most passionate about!
He’s been at Canonical since February 2024, and currently work to integrate the latest and greatest Intel products into Ubuntu. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and two boys, travel, running, and a good cup of coffee.
About Helena
As an AI Frameworks Engineer at Intel, Helena Kloosterman enables organizations to unlock the potential of AI with OpenVINO, Intel’s AI inference runtime. She focuses on making AI accessible by enhancing developer experience and integrating OpenVINO with popular ecosystems like Hugging Face. With a background in mathematics, she is passionate about empowering developers to easily deploy high-performance AI models on Intel hardware (CPUs, GPUs and NPU). She is based in the Netherlands, and works to bridge the gap between complex AI technologies and practical applications.
