In this demo, you learn how to use Auto Populate Catalog in Oracle AI Data Platform Workbench to extract and register metadata from an existing data lake location, such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage. The walkthrough shows how to create a metadata extractor, select the catalog where metadata will be registered, and confirm the source type is set to OCI Object Storage. You also see how to choose a Data Science Workspace compute cluster, select the Object Storage URI, and pick the compartment and bucket that contain the data to extract.
Next, the demo explains how folders in the Object Storage bucket map to tables that can be registered in the catalog while referencing data in place. The tutorial then focuses on governance by selecting manual approval, which puts the extractor results into an in review status so metadata can be validated before it is added to the catalog. You review extracted entities, check table and column details, and accept or reject tables individually or in bulk. Finally, you navigate to the target catalog to verify that the schema and tables were populated as expected, supporting faster data discovery and analysis in a scalable, governed environment.
