Northrop Grumman’s Joseph McConnell and Randall Ellefsen share their journey of building and scaling an enterprise Kubernetes platform with Red Hat OpenShift.
By adopting OpenShift on Azure as a managed service, the team expanded their Kubernetes capabilities into the cloud—balancing control with operational efficiency while maintaining rigorous security and compliance. This hybrid approach created a consistent environment for automated application deployment, accelerating delivery cycles and reducing operational overhead. They have also integrated OpenShift AI to enable AI/ML operations, empowering teams to build, train, and deploy models directly on the platform. Advanced analytics and machine learning now feed into mission-critical business workflows. Looking ahead, Northrop Grumman is exploring OpenShift Virtualization as an alternative to traditional virtualization platforms, simplifying infrastructure and consolidating workloads into a unified, Kubernetes-native environment.
