In this issue of Optical Transmission Minipedia, we’re diving into optical fiber and WDM system spectrum. The optical fiber, made from glass or plastic, is a key transmission medium in modern communications networks. It carries information as optical signals, offering high-speed and long-distance data transfer, a large capacity, and excellent resistance to electromagnetic interference. The optical signals used in WDM systems typically fall within the near-infrared region. These optical signals are often referred to as "colored optical signals" in WDM systems.
