Kendal has spotted bears rummaging through their trash three or four times over the years. Recently, they invested in motion-activated sprinklers, hoping to startle any uninvited guests before they could dig in. On this particular day, the plan finally paid off—a bear approached the trash, but as soon as the sprinkler went off, it was met with a sudden burst of water and ran away.
"I was excited because it was nice to see a plan be successful," Kendal recalls. "The bear was scared away and was not harmed."
