Welcome back to the Citrix AI Hotsheet. Brian Madden (futurist, Citrix) and Dave Brear (account technology strategist, Citrix) talk about how AI is actually entering large, regulated enterprises.
Why enterprises aren’t running AI agents. Every AI lab is selling always-on agents: OpenAI dots, Meta Muse, Microsoft Autopilot, and the rest of what Ethan Mollick calls the claw-likes. When Brian asked CIOs at the WSJ Technology Council Summit how they govern the agents in their environment, they said the question sounds absurd. Dave’s diagnosis: agents compress execution to almost nothing and magnify judgment, good and bad. Brian used to argue agents are just another worker you put guardrails on. Guardrails were never the limiting factor. Even with all of them, how do you know the agent shares your intentions?
The second brain as a harness. Every SaaS app’s chatbot knows its own data and nothing about you. Dave plans in his second brain and has it write the prompts he pastes into each tool. Then he explains why he backed out of building a custom UI for his second brain: he’d accidentally been building his own harness, and the vendors’ are far better. Brian’s conclusion: put your IP in the harness, not the model, so you can swap models when you need to.
