More than two million young people across the U.S. have fallen on hard times, from foster care and homelessness to involvement with the justice system. American Access Institute (AAI) is a mission-driven organization working to connect young people with the mentorship, career pathways, and credentials they need to succeed in the workforce of today.
With a team of fewer than 10 people, eight of whom are volunteers, AAI is building and deploying mobile-first technology that meets young people where they are. Through the AWS Education Equity Initiative, the organization gained access to AI and cloud technology that power their interactive website, server operations, security, and a mobile app that lets users explore career pathways directly from their phones. AAI’s goal is to scale to serve one million young people and 100,000 adult volunteers by 2030.
In this video, AAI Founder Jason Palmer shares how AWS support has helped a small nonprofit look and operate like a much larger organization, and how one young man named Clarence went from bouncing between foster homes to studying AI and computer science with a job already in hand.
