What can students build when they have AI compute right at their desks?
At HackMIT, seven student teams turned bold ideas into working prototypes in a single sprint, using ASUS hardware to build and run AI locally:
🗣️ Team Echo: A real-time AI co-pilot that helps people with aphasia find their words
⚛️ Team Newton’s Playground: An interactive learning program for intro physics
🦽 Team CareChair: An AI-powered wheelchair platform for the elderly
☁️ Team Nimbus: An intelligent camera connecting the digital and physical worlds
🤝 Team Within Reach: A physical AI supporting people with ALS, cerebral palsy, or strokes
🎮 Team Game Forge: A playable 2D sandbox quant platform that separates reliable signals from noise
🧬 Team Erbgut: A tool that digitally simulates DNA encoding and decoding
Many of these projects focused on accessibility and healthcare, showing how students are using AI to solve real human problems.
With AI agent computers like the ASUS Ascent GX10 and ZenScreen portable displays, students could develop, test, and iterate on-device, with no waiting on the cloud and no API costs slowing them down.
